I watched parts of Code Geass, I could see why people like it, but I didn't. After a point it seemed like it was an endless nerd fight. (nerd fight example: "I hit you with my sword" "I block" "My sword breaks blocks" "My magic acts like a secondary shield" "My sword cuts magic" "My blood harden instantaneously" "My sword hits your soul" "My soul is guarded by a phoenix" "My sword is empowered by a daemon" "YOUR CHEATING!") (Yes I am aware that you probably knew what I meant, but that was fun to type.)

I finished Bubblegum crisis. The bezerk robots start being really ugly art style wise, but it was still cool.
Any suggestions as to what I should start on next? I like anime that seems like the ending was thought of from the start. In other words I don't like it when the main baddie is killed/stopped and then some other random dude, who is completely unrelated to the first one, shows up, and is all like, "BUHAHAHAHAHA I HAVE A TRUELLY EVIL PLAN, I"M GONNA MAKE THE SERIES LAST SO LONG THAT NO ONE CARES ANYMORE!" . . . dbz >_> (as much as I love it, it ran waaaaaaaaaaaay to long)
Any of you watch Samurai X? Is it one of the good series that shonen made, or is it another ran to long thing?
Edit: Oh and I watched Bubble Gum Crysis Tokyo 2040, which seems to just be the same series, either redone or following the manga closer. IDK

I have watched Samurai X but it was a looong, super long time ago so I don't really remember what happened... I think it was because I started with Rurouni Kenshin and I was somehow boggled by the difference between the badassery and the KAWAII KENSHIN storylines. IDK
Sadly I don't have any anime to recommend right now. I started watching Tsuritama but have yet to finish it, and I just finished watching Durarara and was blown away+saddened it had to end. But I hear there are light novels so maybe I can find translations somewhere.

I did hear that they were planning to make second series of DRR!! if there was enough interest from fans in the US. What came of that or whether any series that does get made will be available in the UK, I don't know. I'm hopeful though.

It just occured to me, you have to wait longer for most games and stuff. D= Do you import alot of stuff, or do you just wait?

it's strange how sometimes we get things before the UK and sometimes the UK gets stuff before us. But it seems like it would be hard to import a lot of stuff because some things are region locked? (also curious)

Yea, DVDs, Blurays and most games are region locked. The only exceptions are PSP/PS3 and DS games. (But all 3DS and, i think, some DSi games are locked.) There is stuff like Crunchyroll and FUNimation's YouTube channel, but they also tend to lock series to America only, and in FUNi's case, only upload the first season or so, depending on the show. Still, I get to decide if I like a series before I commit 30-80 quid on DVDs. More and more I'm wondering why so little anime is available on iTunes. It would solve two of the biggest problems I currently face; Massive series like Naruto and Bleach would no longer take up vast amounts of space, and I wouldn't find myself hunting down mid-series boxsets that sold out and weren't re-printed. I know Avatar: The Last Airbender is there though. That makes me happy (or it will when I can afford £15 a season) In theory it would also lower costs and they'd have less excuse for delaying releases in the UK. The biggest problem is UK vs US censorship standards. Though really, that should currently be the only problem anyway. It's not like they re-dub stuff with British accents (as hilarious as that would be) and the subtitles are generally full of Americanisms. We do get a few things before America does. Xenoblade Chronicles being the main example I can think of. If that ever did get released over there you should definitely get it. I was amused because all the voices were British (OK, cockney, even the baddies, but still). Actually, did you guys get The Last Story? Again, British Accents, but more varied this time. Especially Syrenne who has a lovely broad Yorkshire(-ish) northern accent. We also got Prometheus first, but I haven't seen that because it came out the day I left for E3 (and then came out in the US the day I left for home). /Tangent EDIT: Looked at the wiki page for The Last Story. You guys get it next month. From that, I assume they're re-dubbing it. Did they change the voice dub in the US version of Xenoblade? (Which also had a looong release gap.)

I havn't played Xenoblade, but I remember when they weren't going to release those here, people were all sorts of crazy. It never occurred to me that DVDs would be region locked. PS3 isn't region locked?

The PSP and PS3 are both region-free (though only for games AFAIK) as is the DS, both the 3DS and PSVita are region-locked though.
Me and my BF went to a GameStop in Hollywood and bought a ton of games that were either really expensive here or just weren't available at all in Britain.

Hmm, thanks for the insight of a british gamer.
I used to know this foreign exchange student from Thailand. Because pirating is legal there, so he told me, the systems are more expensive.

this is totally off topic but I thought of anime to recommend: BLUE EXORCIST
I haven't watched the last few episodes because I'm lazy I saw some posts on tumblr about future chapters and how the anime only went on for one season and ajshskjhfd so I got a little sad but, I'm slowly collecting the manga and I plan to rewatch again soon.
It's very awesome you guys ;__;
Also yeah, why DON'T they have more anime on iTunes? That would solve, like, all of my problems.

I've heard a little about that one. I'm actually watching through Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I've seen bits and pieces before, but my memory of it is mixed up with the first FMA anime.

this is totally off topic but I thought of anime to recommend: BLUE EXORCIST Pffft I think that was the point of this thread, originally. We may have slightly derailed it by moaning about publishers. Blue Exorcist falls into that "I want to watch this but it is completely unavailable in the UK" category. I generally avoid pirating anime and such, but sometimes it's so frustrating because stuff just isn't available here through legal means; and when it is it's often like 30 quid for 12 episodes. (Unless I want the latest mediocre generic harem/ecchi series, which I really don't) That was too much when I was at uni and had money to burn, now it's pretty much impossible. They were doing so well with stuff like the Naruto Unleashed/Uncut boxsets, but they kind of seemed to evaporate at some point a year or so ago and suddenly the prices are really stingy again.

D= that sucks. Is their not something like hulu there? I stream most of the anime I watch. (I'll buy series I like, but recently I havn't wanted to fork out the money for them.)
Do you know the conversion of quids to dollers?

All of the four terrestrial providers (BBC, ITV, Channel four and Channel Five) have a free on-demand service, but most of the stuff is only up for a limited time (sometimes the BBC will put up series one of a show for a week or so before series two airs), and as none of those channels show anime anyway, there's nothing on them. There are on-demand/internet services for the Cable/Satellite providers, but you need to pay for those, and then there's Netflix and LoveFilm, which are rental services and also paid. I don't know about anime, but you can rent games from LoveFilm. When I got my dollars for E3, it was something like 67p to a dollar, so usually I go with somewhere between two thirds and four fifths as the cost in pounds. We have crazy-high VAT though (20% - thanks Dave ;D) so even after accounting for the exchange rate, things cost less in America. Example - While I was in America I bought a pair of headphones for $20 plus a dollar or so tax. That's £12.85 according to xe.com. Back here, I have to go online to get anything like that price. But, I don't want to derail the thread into "B'awww poor me!" so... Anime!Hmmm... We've all talked about anime me like. How about... anime we really hate? Is there any particular genre or series you just can't get into, regardless of how awesome it's supposed to be? It took me a long time to get into Death Note. Apart from the villainous protagonist, (I have to like the characters I'm watching.) it was pretty obvious that characters I liked were going to die. Also. That fandom. Lordy. I don't really like Harem series in general. There are one or two that I like because I saw them at a particular point in my life and they bring about instant nostalgia, or because they do something different, but for the most part... they're just a bunch of shallow female stereotypes fawning over a guy who isn't really all that desirable. But I'm a girl, I know they're not written for me. (BTW if anyone wants a hilarious deconstruction of the genre, go watch Ouran High School Host Club. It manages to be both a really funny parody and a sweet story at the same time.)
