How do you guys do shadows in your drawings? Like what tools do you use?

My favourite way to do shadows is to slightly increase the blue value of the base colour (or decrease the yellow), and then use a multiply brush. For simpler shading, try a very dark blue and then set the layer to multiply and lower the opacity; you might have to use different amounts of transparency depending on your base colour though.

Thanks! I'll try that.

I guess this isn't quite asking for advice, but is drawing in a different style difficult for you guys? I've tried in the past, and recently, but my success at doing so is at zero.

Yeah, it is pretty hard for me. I have been wanting to try new styles lately because mine has become kind of hard to draw (not that it's difficult, just that it's boring... also to clarify I am NOT fishing for compliments, I'm just being 100% honest). I wish I could draw in more realistic or cartooney styles but it's a lot harder than it looks.

To get a picture to look like this I just bucket fill the empty space in it with black, and then I invert the colors. Doing this, however, prevents me from coloring this picture the way I want to. (which is to color in layers behind the lines) Do any of you know a way I can have my lines look like this, and be able to easily color the picture? (I know you guys don't use gimp, but any reply might be helpful.) BTW, this is a picture of me drawing this picture . . . PICTURECEPTION!

Try copy/pasting onto a new layer and setting it to "Multiply", then colour underneath.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. The problem is that all that white space isn't empty space (on the canvas). So if I color underneath it, the color will not show up. Is there a way I can select that white space and delete it maybe?

This is how I do it in Photoshop, so I guess see if there are similar options in Gimp
...select the white space, go to the "select" option on the menu and click "select similar". Also you will want to double click the layer the lineart is on so you can name it Layer 0. This gives it a transparent background to work with (do this before you select the white space).
After you have clicked Select Similar, it should select all of the white spaces. Either "Cut" it or just hit the delete button. Then you can either color underneath it as is, or set it to multiply so that any left over "residue" will blend in better with the color.

awesome! You're welcome!
Also on a kind of off-topic note, I AM going to read up on Seth on D.A. I promise you! Just been trying to catch up with work and everything since I got back. So didn't want you to think I was ignoring it.

I haven't finished his story yet tbh. I have it worked out, I just don't know what to draw for the next part of it. (there are three parts left, and I know what I want to draw for the last two.)

Awesome :3 well, maybe I will wait to read it all at once then? *impatient* xD Still, it's awesome that you have a story planned out. I always have that problem. I know what I want to happen in Point A and Point B, but it's crossing the bridge to get there that becomes the issue.
yay for writing.
