I had an idea. Why don't the artist share their inspirations. Both in their style and the actual reason they continue to make art.
As for style, I seem to have drawn a bit of style from Andrew Hussie. Which . . . might not be a good thing when the main thing of his I've seen is Homestuck. xD I used to try to emulate Jhonen Vasquez as well as the artist who did Scott Pilgrim. I also kinda take from artist who I've literally watched.
As for why I draw. Well I used to waaaaaaaay back in middle school and was told I suck, so for the longest time I donly doodled on tests. Actually I can thank Ajah and a few others for my constant scribbles now. xD Thanks guys.

You're welcome! xD As for me I'm inspired by a lot of artists and animators. Koji Morimoto, Yoshitoshi ABe, Disney, Studio Ghibli. CLAMP's manga was the reason I decided to go for comics and not animation, because it was telling a story and bringing it to life another way.
Nowadays my biggest inspirations are Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz), Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), Alessandro Barbucci (Skydoll) and various artists on the internet. I think right now internet based artists and webcomic artists are my biggest inspirations. I don't want to flood my post with names haha
as for writing/storytelling
Abigail Hilton, Tamora Pierce, Neil Gaiman, Diane Wynne Jones (sadly deceased), JR Tolkein, and a bit of GRRM even though I have several issues with his writing.
umm but I've already rambled too much so I'll just leave it there xD
